Downloading a house from The Sims 4 and preparing it for upload
Font Size
To download a house from The Sims 4 and prepare it for upload to an unofficial website (like this one), you’ll need to locate the tray files of the lot. Here’s how to do it step by step:
🏠 Step-by-Step: Export a House from The Sims 4
1. Save the lot to your Library
If you haven’t already:
- Go into Build/Buy Mode on the lot you want to export.
- Click the Gallery icon (top right, or press
F4). - Click the Save Lot to Library button (folder with an arrow).
- Make sure to check "Include Custom Content" if your lot has CC.
- Give it a name and save it.
2. Locate your Tray folder
Your saved lot is stored as several .blueprint, .bpi, and .trayitem files in:
Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Tray
These files represent your house. Unfortunately, there’s no single file—you’ll need to grab all related ones.
How to Find the Right Tray Files
Each house can create 5–9 files. To find the exact files:
Option 1: Use a Tray Organizer tool
Recommended for ease and accuracy
- Download Sims 4 Tray Importer (safe and commonly used).
- Open it, and it will display all your Library items with previews.
- Find the lot you saved and right-click → Show Containing Files to easily grab the exact files.
Option 2: Sort Tray folder by Date Modified
- Sort your
Trayfolder by date. - Select all files modified at the same time as when you saved the lot.
- Copy those to a new folder.
Uploading
Once you’ve gathered the tray files:
- Zip them (e.g.,
MyCoolHouse.zip) - Include any custom content files (from
Modsfolder) only if you have permission from creators - Write a description, include pictures, and upload your
.zipfile under the appropriate category.
